Ghenete Wright Muir

Ghenete Wright Muir is an Attorney, Realtor and Public Speaker living in Broward County. She is an openly gay and gender non-conforming woman of Jamaican descent.

Ms. Wright Muir manages her own general law practice, and previously worked as a Senior Attorney with the Fort Lauderdale Branch of The Florida Bar, and served as an attorney with Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc. and the Law Office of the Public Defender in Broward County.

For over 10 years, Ms. Wright Muir has been very active in the legal community and the South Florida community at large. She is a past President of The T.J. Reddick Bar Association, has served on The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors and, for many years, has been serving on Advisory Boards for the City of Sunrise. Ms. Wright Muir very publicly transitioned from being married to man to being openly gay and gender non-conforming, and sustains a record of influencing positive impact in the LGBT community.

Ms. Wright Muir serves on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) South Florida Steering Committee as Co-Chair of Community Engagement. Through HRC, the largest LGBT Organization in the United States, she has traveled to Washington, D.C. to lobby for pro-equality legislation, and has also organized and hosted HRC events in South Florida.

When Ms. Wright Muir became an open member of the LGBT community, she felt there was a need for additional safe spaces for LGBT women, so she founded “Thou Art Woman,” an open mic event for LGBT women and their allies. “Thou Art Woman” has been warmly received and well-attended, and has since grown to include other events such as a recent screening of a Jamaican LGBT film and “Money Talks,” a forum addressing financial wellness.

Ms. Wright Muir is the mother of two teenage sons. She received her B.A. in Black Studies and Psychology from Amherst College and her J.D. from Pace University School of Law.
